A 27 year old man's being questioned on suspicion of murder after a body was found in a canal in Manchester city centre. Sean Michael Markey from Newton Heath was pulled from the water off Canal Street on Sunday.
Police have revealed the identity of a man whose body was recovered from a canal in Manchester city centre.
Sean Michael Markey, 39, from Newton Heath was pulled from the water off Canal Street on Sunday 6 October 2013.
A post mortem was inconclusive and further tests will be carried out.
Sean was last seen on Wednesday 2 October 2013 on Nicholas Street in Manchester city centre.
Police are appealing for information to trace his last movements and establish the full circumstances surrounding his death.
Detective Inspector Brian Morley said: “Our thoughts are with Sean’s family at this difficult time and we are supporting them while we work to establish what exactly happened to him.
“It is not yet clear how or when Sean died so we are urging anyone who may have seen or spoken to him since he was last seen in the early hours on Wednesday, to get in touch with police and help us piece together his final movements.”
Police have confirmed that earlier this afternoon they were called to the canal near Union Street in Manchester city centre following a report there was believed to be a body in the water.
Officers and an underwater search team attended and a body was recovered from the water.
