Chorley teacher wins 'outstanding' award

A science teacher from Chorley has won an award for 'Outstanding New Teacher of the Year' at the Pearson Teaching Awards 2013.

Sean Hardeley works at Holy Cross Roman Catholic High School.

Mr Hardeley switched careers three years ago, leaving his job as a health assessor for Bupa to enter the classroom to teach biology, chemistry and physics.

His lessons have included a class on the cardiovascular system that featured a real lamb's heart and an ox heart, and a project to send a balloon into space with a teddy bear and camera attached to record images of the earth and its weather systems.
