The Royal British Legion is hosting its first ever Manchester Poppy Day today. More than 100 volunteers will take to the streets to raise money for the Poppy Appeal. The money will help support veterans, Serving personnel and their families.

Fred Culley: 'My time on the front line"

He was part of the Allied forces which invaded Germany at the end of the Second World War.

Now Fred Culley is enjoying a long and happy retirement in Wigan.

And one of the reasons he's happy is the financial help he gets from the Royal British Legion. Our reporter Amy Welch spoke to Fred and learned about his time on the front line:

Teenager speads message of Poppy Appeal

It is something we often associate with older generations but one teenager from Cheshire is the UK's youngest Poppy Appeal organiser.

16 year old Jamie Cunningham was inspired by his grandparents and parents who were all in the RAF.

And in the run-up to Remembrance Sunday, he has been passing on the message about the Poppy Appeal to an even younger audience.

Royal British Legion helps man care for wife with dementia

To mark this years Poppy Appeal we are looking at ways the Royal British Legion can change lives.

Malcom Brocklehurst who lives in Cleveleys finished his national service back in 1957.

It gave him a love of aircraft which led him to work on Concorde where he met his wife Mary.

She is registered blind and has dementia which has been difficult for him to cope with.

His says his lifeline is the monthly visits from a Royal British Legion Admiral Nurse.

Widow who lost husband ten months after wedding praises Royal British Legion

In the latest of our series of special features to mark this year's Poppy Appeal we meet a young widow from Lancashire.

Lisa McKinlay's husband Jon was shot and killed in Afghanistan in September 2011.

Her father is chairman of her local Royal British legion branch in Garstang near Preston - but it wasn't until she lost Jon that Lisa realised just how important their help and support would be.

The Royal British Legion is hosting its first ever Manchester Poppy Day today. More than 100 volunteers will take to the streets to raise money for the Poppy Appeal. The Legion hope to raise £37m this year across the UK.

The money will help support veterans, Serving personnel and their families. It follows London Poppy Day which has raised millions of pounds in the last five years.
