Police have charged a 55-year-old man with murdering a mother and daughter on Merseyside.

William Owen, from Knowsley, is appearing in court.

Sharon Hayter, 55, and her daughter, Stephanie Owen, 29, were found dead at their home in Knowsley on Thursday. Both died of head injuries.

An air ambulance was scrambled to the scene, but nothing could be done for the women.

Family release statement after Knowsley Village deaths

"Sharon was a devoted, loving, caring mother and sister. She was extremely proud of her daughter Stephanie and was devoted to her.

"Sharon was educated at All Hallows secondary school in Speke. She later attained a degree in Information Technology, which she utilised as a volunteer, teaching children with learning difficulties.

"Stephanie was a loving daughter who loved singing and playing music. She enjoyed holidaying with her family at Blackpool.

"As a family we have taken some comfort from the lovely response within the community and are appreciative of their support.

”We would ask that we are now allowed some space and time to try and come to terms with the tragic loss of our much loved Sharon and Stephanie. They will be sadly missed.”

Women were killed by 'blow to the head'

Merseyside Police say that the two women found dead at an address in Knowsley Village both died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.

Sharon Hayter, 55, and her daughter, Stephanie Owen, 29 were found dead yesterday.

A 55-year-old man from Knowsley Village, arrested on suspcion of murdering the women, remains in police custody.

Murder investigation launched in Knowsley

A murder inquiry's underway after two women were found dead at a house on Merseyside. They've yet to be named - but it's been confirmed one was in her 20s and the other in her 50s.

Their bodies were found at an address in Knowsley Village near Kirkby - a 55 year old man has been arrested.

Detectives in Knowsley are investigating the murder of two women in Knowsley Village.

At around midday a man attended Huyton police station to report the incident.

Officers then went to a house in Home Farm Road and discovered the bodies of two women, one believed to be in her twenties and the other in her fifties.

A 55-year-old man from the Knowsley Village area has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with this incident.

He has been taken into police custody where he will be questioned by detectives.

The women have not yet been formally identified and the next of kin are being sought.

A Home Office post mortem will take place to establish the causes of death.

Detectives believe the offender and victims were known to each other.

The scene has been cordoned off for forensic examination by Crime Scene Investigators and house-to-house enquiries are being carried out in the area.
