Houses have been evacuated after a section of coal mine collapsed in Lancashire.

Geoffrey Walls told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph: "The yard was floating. The shaft comes out of one of the neighbour’s cellars and forks over under here. We moved here 15 years ago and never knew about it.”

Families in a Lancashire town have been evacuated from their homes after part of a coal mine collapsed under their homes.

A section of the 150-year-old Inch Mine collapsed off Manchester Road in Baxenden. Backyards of several houses collapsed and a number of properties have been evacuated.
