Dramatic video of building collapse - once home to troubled Poet

Caught on camera the dramatic moment the former home of a troubled poet collapses.

The video shows a structural engineer on a cherry picker appearing to dislodge bricks and a beam at the property on Stamford Street Central in Ashton-under-Lyne.

Structural engineers were called out following reports of falling debris after the building bowed outwards.

The terrace has a blue plaque saying it was once home to poet Francis Thompson who lived there between 1864 and 1885.

During his life he experienced extreme poverty and became addicted to opium.

Tameside council say the boarded up property, which is privately owned, has not been in use for some time.
