A nurse charged with murdering patients at Stepping Hill Hospital has made his first appearance at Manchester Crown Court.

Victorino Chua, 48, from Stockport faces three charges of murder, one charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and 22 counts of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.

He also faces seven charges of attempting to administer poison and one count of causing poison to be administered with intent.

The judge closed the hearing by telling Victorino Chua his trial will likely be in January 2015.

There will be another hearing on 14 April.

A nurse charged with murdering three people will appear in court today.

Victorino Chua, 48, faces a series of charges following a lengthy investigation by police at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport, where he worked.

The 34 alleged offences include three murders, one charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and 22 counts of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.

He also faces seven charges of attempting to administer poison and one count of causing poison to be administered with intent.

Chua, of Churchill Street, Stockport, will appear at Manchester Crown Court today for a preliminary hearing, where a decision will be made on whether he can be bailed.

The alleged offences span a six-month period between June 1 2011 and January 3 2012, when patients where Chua worked at Stepping Hill were poisoned.

The alleged murders of Tracey Arden, 44, Arnold Lancaster, 71 and Derek Weaver, 83, took place within a 14-day period, on July 7, 11 and 21 in 2011.

Chua was first held in January 2012, and has been on bail since then, but was re-arrested and charged last week.

A nurse is due to appear in court via a video link today charged over the deaths of several patients at Stepping Hill hospital.

Victorino Chua is facing 34 in total including 3 counts of murder.

It follows an investigation into the alleged tampering of medical equipment almost 3 years ago
