11 year old Joshua Almond had to put his football career on hold after being diagnosed with leukaemia. Sir Alex Ferguson has written to him to say the club will wait after spotting his talent before illness struck.

Young footballer owes his life to Manchester United

An 11 year old footballer says he owes his life to Manchester United. Joshua Almond, from Darwen in Lancashire was training with the club when one of the academy staff noticed he looked lethargic and unable to keep up with the other trainees.

The leukaemia diagnosis that followed shocked both the club and Josh's family. Josh is now in remission after having extensive treatment for leukaemia including a bone marrow transplant thanks to the Anthony Nolan blood cancer charity and bone marrow register.
