The charity helping Manchester's young homeless get their lives back on track by running

Homeless young people in the North West are being helped to get their lives back on track through running.

The Running Charity has set up in Manchester after having success in London.

Coach George Bate is aiming to get as many athletes as possible across the line in next year's Manchester marathon.

He's also wanting to recruit more volunteer coaches to take part with training sessions.

Can you spot yourself crossing the finish line of the Mersey Tunnel 10k run?

More than 3,000 people have taken part in a road race under the River Mersey. The Tunnel 10k run is an annual challenge from Liverpool to New Brighton, Wirral. Amongst those taking part was an amateur athlete who was just hours from getting married. The winner was Ethiopian Dejene Gezimu, 23, who has now won four local races this year. We sent our cameras along to the finish line to capture the action while organiser Alan Rothwell explains why the event is going from strength to strength.


Johnson-Thompson heptathlon medal hopes over

Katarina Johnson-Thompson failed to register a mark in the long jump event, effectively ending her heptathlon medal hopes.

Johnson-Thompson went into the fifth event in second place overall, but a disastrous long jump ruled her out of contention with red flags in all three of her jumps, including a marginal decision in her third and final round.

Jessica Ennis-Hill finished fourth in the long jump to maintain her overall lead in the competition.

KJT on record leap

Liverpool athlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson smashed the British indoor long jump record with a leap of 6.93 metres. She'll compete in the pentathlon for Great Britain at the European Indoor Championships next month.

She's the world's number one heptathlete this year and has gold in her sights at this summer's Commonwealth Games.
