Manchester headteacher shortlisted for top award

A teacher from Manchester has reached the final of this years classroom heroes awards. Darren Morgan works at Kings Road Primary School in Old Trafford and was nominated by parents, pupils & colleagues. He's been shortlisted as headteacher of the year.

The creator of Coronation Street, Tony Warren, is to receive the inaugural Nations and Regions Media Achievement Award at this year’s Salford International Media Festival.

The award recognises his outstanding contribution to, and impact on, the development of media in the Nations and Regions of the UK.

Tony Warren established the world’s longest running TV soap opera in production, Coronation Street. He is still a consultant to the show. The Royal Television Society has labelled the show as “the most successful television programme in British history”.

“We’re delighted that the legendary creator of Coronation Street, Tony Warren, will be receiving the inaugural NARM Achievement Award at the Salford International Media Festival. Few people have done more for regional broadcasting; he helped to put Manchester and Salford on the cultural map. He is shows why regional television is vital to our country’s media landscape and was a trailblazer for so many people who will be attending our Nations and Regions Media Conference.”

Fuzz-faced Manchester pub named 'most beard friendly'

The Port Street Beer House in Manchester's Northern Quarter has been chosen as the most beard friendly pub outside London.

The facial fuzz friendly establishment always has a warm welcome for those who are follically blessed as Paul Crone found out.
