Meppen-Walter 'doing 56mph in 30 zone'

Manchester City player Courtney Meppen-Walter was driving at 56 miles per hour in a 30 zone before a crash that killed a brother and a sister, a court has heard.

Meppen-Walter is being sentenced after he admitted two counts of causing death by careless driving.

The 18-year-old had six penalty points on his driving licence when he crashed in Cheetham Hill.

Manchester City player Courtney Meppen-Walter has arrived at court to be sentenced after he caused a crash that killed a brother and sister.

He has admitted two counts of causing death by careless driving.

Kulwant Singh, 32, and Ravel Kaur, 37, both died in the crash.

Meppen-Walter crashed his Mercedes into their car on Bury New Road in Cheetham Hill in September.

Two men arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following a fatal collision in north Manchester have been bailed.

Kulwant Singh, 32 and from Salford, and his Cheetham Hill-based sister Ravel-Kaur Singh, 37, died on Saturday night when a silver Mercedes collided with their red Nissan Micra.

Manchester City footballer Courtney Meppen-Walter, who was driving the Mercedes, and a second man, 19, who was driving a grey Volkswagen Golf were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Brother and sister confirmed as victims of fatal Manchester crash

A brother and a sister have been identified as the victims of a crash in north Manchester.

Manchester City footballer Courtney Meppen-Walter was arrested after the smash on Bury New Road.

Police say Kulwant Singh, 32 and from Salford, and his Cheetham Hill-based sister Ravel-Kaur Singh, 37, died.

It happened just after 10pm on Saturday night. A silver Mercedes collided with a red Nissan Micra.

Kulwant and Ravel-Kaur were both in the front of the Micra. Her two sons, who are aged 16 and 17, were in the back. They were taken to the Hope Hospital for treatment.

The 17-year-old boy is critically ill with a head injury.

Police say the driver of the Mercedes, who is 18, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Another 19-year-old man who was driving a grey Volkswagen Golf, was also arrested on suspicion of the same offence.
