Parents who lost baby at Furness General hospital are told by coroner her death was preventable

Elleanor Bennett's parents were told she'd died of natural causes aged 2 days old after being born at Furness General Hospital. Her death was only referred to the South Cumbria Coroner years later after a police investigation into a number deaths at the trust's maternity unit.

Coroner concludes baby died of birthing complications

The coroner at the inquest into the death of Elleanor Bennett has concluded she died as a consequence of complications during the birthing process.

Questions have been raised about why a doctor was not called in sooner, why the baby was not properly monitored and why the family were not told of failings.

The mother of a baby who died on Furness General Hospital's maternity ward is giving evidence at the inquest into her death, nine years after the baby passed away.
