Trial of man accused of murdering Oldham mother

The trial of a man accused of murdering his wife in Oldham has begun.

The jury at Manchester Crown Court heard that Jahangar Nazar stabbed Jabeen Younis nineteen times in the neck at her home in Chadderton in April last year.

Her six year old son was asleep in the room next door.

Nazar denies murder but admits manslaughter.

Murder victim had "previous contact" with police

Greater Manchester Police say the Independent Police Complaints Commission are to be informed and updated with any findings in the investigation into the murder of Farhanda Younis in Oldham.

The force say their Professional Standards Branch has been aware of previous police contact with Ms Younis, and an investigation is currently underway to establish if there are any misconduct matters.

A post mortem has found that a mother of two from Oldham woman died from stab wounds.

Shortly after 10am on Friday police were called to reports of a concern for welfare at an address on Bamford Street in Chadderton.

Officers found the body of a 30-year-old woman, who has now been formally identified as Farkhanda Younis, known to her friends and family as Jabeen Younis.

Farkhanda had suffered multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.On Saturday 20 a 20-year-old woman was arrested in the Oldham area on suspicion of murder. She has now been bailed pending further enquiries.
