Lancashire police are appealing to anyone who may have information about the attempted theft of a cash machine in the early hours of this morning in Knott End.
At around 2am, two men forced their way into the Co-Op store on Lancaster Road through the roller shutter door at the front of the shop.
They attached chains to the machine and tried to rip it open by then fixing the chains to a dark coloured Land Rover Discovery and attempting to drive off.
No money was taken, however, extensive damage was caused to the front of the store and the ATM machine.
No other items were stolen during the raid.
A police investigation has been launched after a woman died after falling into the sea. The incident happened as the pensioner was walking with her husband on the seafront at Knott End at around 3.50pm on Thursday.
The man was a little in front of his partner and when he looked back to check if she was ok, the 75-year-old haddisappeared. Hefrantically rushed to the sea wall and saw her in the water below. The inshore lifeboat was launched but were unable to revive the woman.
