Transport Secretary: "I take any security breach very seriously"

Transport Secretary Justine Greening told ITV News that she has spoken to Manchester Airport and the airline Jet2 following a security breach in which a schoolboy evaded five security checks at Manchester Airport to sneak onto a flight to Rome.

An investigation is underway and a number of airline staff have been suspended.

Eleven-year-old Liam Corcoran was only found on the Jet2 flight after passengers became concerned.

A number of airline staff have been suspended.

Transport Secretary Justine Greening has spoken about a security breach after a schoolboy evaded five security checks and boarded a Jet2 flight to Rome.

Speaking on BBC News 24 today, she said: "This is an unusual and serious breach and we are keen to find out what has gone on."

Jet2 statement on schoolboy who fllew alone to Rome after evading airport security at Manchester

On Tuesday an 11 year old boy cleared security at Manchester Airport, without the necessary paperwork but had been through a full security search. The boy then boarded our flight bound for Rome. We have launched a full investigation into what is a serious incident, and the staff involved have been suspended pending the outcome. The boy has been returned safely to his family.”

He had run away from his mother while out shopping in Wythenshawe.
