– Barbara Keeley MP - Worsley and Eccles South
“Re-establishing a women’s football team at Manchester United would make a real contribution to raising the profile of women’s sport, and would help increase female participation in sport both here and in other countries where the club has female fans.
I really do hope that Manchester United follow the lead of other Premier League clubs and do what their fans have asked them to do by re-establishing a women’s team. “
Manchester United boss David Moyes has responded personally to a letter sent by a North West MP urging him to help start a women's team at the club.
He starts the letter to MP for Worsley and Eccles South Barbara Keeley by stating he was not at the club when it disbanded it's women's side in 2005.
Manchester United is the only Premier League club without a women's team of any description after its previous side was scrapped back in 2005.
But a petition calling for change has attracted over 3,300 signatures.
