A plaque will be unveiled later in memory of the man who invented popular drink Vimto.
John Noel Nichols was born in 1883 and attended Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School in blackburn.
His grandson who also went to the school will unveil the plaque
A private school in Blackburn has submitted an application to become a free school.
Queen Elizabeth Grammar School (QEGS), Lancashire's oldest grammar school, has submitted the document to the Department for Education requesting approval for the change in status.
The move would see the school scrap its £10,000 a year fees and open its doors to children of all abilities.
It comes as pupil numbers fell to 478 in 2012.
