Merseyside Police can confirm an investigation is currently underway following a fatal road traffic collision in Liverpool in the early hours of Monday 25th December.
The collision occurred at the junction of Prescot Road and Bell Street in Old Swan at 4.35am when a BMW car was in collision with a bus stop following a short police pursuit.
The front seat passenger of the car, a male in his 30s, was taken to hospital where he has since passed away. Work is ongoing to confirm the identity of the male and inform his next of kin. The male driver of the car was detained at the scene.
The incident has been referred to the IPCC.
Prescot Road is currently closed between the junctions of Green Lane and St Oswalds Street to allow for an investigation to be carried out and drivers are being advised to avoid the area.

A teenager killed after a collision in Cumbria has been named as Bethany Louise Crook.
Bethany died at Furness General Hospital after she was involved in a collision with a minibus yesterday.
Police in Cumbria say a girl has died after being in collision with a mini bus.
It happened on the A590 near Ulverston.
The girl, believed to be in her teens, was taken to Furness General hospital but doctors were unable to save her.
The mini bus driver and his passengers were uninjured.
