Police have closed off Smithdown Road in Liverpool in both direction after a road traffic accident.

The M6 has ground to a halt after a serious collision involving five HGVs near Sandbach in Cheshire.
Tailbacks are stretching for miles on The Northbound carriageway which is closed between junctions 16 and 17 following the incident at 11am this morning.
One driver is believed to be seriously injured and has been airlifted to hospital in Stoke.
Emergency services are on the scene and an investigation has begun. Cheshire Police have urged drivers to avoid the area with diversions in place.
An incident involving 5 HGVs on the M6 motorway has halted traffic and caused major tailbacks.
The collision happened just North of Sandbach Services on the Northbound side. That side of the motorway is now closed and fire and rescue teams are on the scene.
Motorists are being urged to avoid the area while emergency services deal with the incident.
One lane is closed and there's slow traffic due to an accident with three vehicles involved on the M62 Westbound at Junction 6 for the M57 / A5080 / A5300 Knowsley Expressway (Tarbock Island). Lane one (of three) is closed away from Warrington towards Liverpool.
There's also a lane closed due to an accident on the M56 Westbound between Junction 11 for the A56 (Preston Brook) and Junction 12 for the A557 (Runcorn). Lane three is closed heading away from Manchester towards Runcorn although traffic is said to be coping well.
One lane is blocked due to an accident with two vehicles involved on the M6 Southbound between Junction 19 for the A556 (Knutsford) and Junction 18 for the A54 (Middlewich / Holmes Chapel).
There are also reports of a lane blocked on the M60 exit slip road at Junction 12 for the M62 / M602 (Eccles Interchange).
On the M66 Southbound the exit slip road is closed due to animals on road at Junction 3 (Hollins).
One lane is closed due to broken down vehicle on the M61 Northbound between Junction 8 for the A674 (Chorley) and Junction 9 for the M65 (Clayton Brook).
Lane one (of three) is closed affecting traffic from Chorley towards Preston, although traffic is reported to be coping well.
There are reports of severe delays on the M6 around Knutsford as traffic for the Cheshire Show builds up.
Traffic is queuing on the exit slip road and on the carriageway both ways on the M6 at Junction 19 for the A556 stretching South to Junction 18 (Middlewich / Holmes Chapel) for the A54 and North to Junction 23 for the A580 (Haydock).
Surrounding routes are also congested including Chester Road.
Meahwhile on the M60 an accident at Junction 5 for the A5103 (Princess Parkway) has caused heavy traffic with one lane closed on the exit slip road.
Reports of M62 Eastbound lane blocked on entry slip road due to accident, two vehicles involved at J20 A627(M) Rochdale.
One lane closed due to accident on M61 Northbound between J5 A58 (Westhoughton) and J6 A6027 (Horwich).
Traffic jams in Manchester and Liverpool are getting worse according to a new survey. During the rush hour drivers can expect to face journey times more than 70 per cent longer then normal.
In the worst-congested cities, evening rush-hour journeys are taking more than 70% longer than they would in free-flowing traffic, the poll by traffic information company TomTom found.
Congestion levels have got worse over the past year in:

- Nottingham, Leicester
TomTom Traffic vice-president Ralf-Peter Schaefer said: "Road authorities and local governments can use traffic data to better manage traffic flow and businesses can plan smarter working hours, so their employees avoid travelling during the rush-hour."
