Traffic jams in Manchester and Liverpool are getting worse according to a new survey. During the rush hour drivers can expect to face journey times more than 70 per cent longer then normal.
In the worst-congested cities, evening rush-hour journeys are taking more than 70% longer than they would in free-flowing traffic, the poll by traffic information company TomTom found.
Congestion levels have got worse over the past year in:
- Brighton and Hove
- Nottingham, Leicester
TomTom Traffic vice-president Ralf-Peter Schaefer said: "Road authorities and local governments can use traffic data to better manage traffic flow and businesses can plan smarter working hours, so their employees avoid travelling during the rush-hour."
Queueing traffic and road closed due to accident, two lorries involved on M65 Eastbound between J1 M6 ( Lostock Hall) and J2 M61 (Clayton Brook). One of the lorries is reported to have overturned. Affecting traffic towards the M61. Separate from the broken down vehicle on the opposite carriageway.
Reports of one lane blocked due to broken down lorry on M6 Southbound at J18 A54 (Middlewich / Holmes Chapel).
One lane of the M61 Southbound is closed due to an accident between J9 M65 (Clayton Brook) and J8 A674 (Chorley). Lane one (of three) is closed. Traffic is affected heading towards Chorley.
Severe delays on Manchester Metrolink between East Didsbury and Rochdale Town Centre due to earlier incident at Queens Road.
Two lanes closed and slow traffic due to accident on M60 clockwise between J13 A572 / A575 / B5211 (Worsley) and J15 M61 (Swinton Interchange). Matrix sign set to 40 mph.
Part of the M61 northbound in Bolton is closed after a HGV crashed into an embankment leaving debris on the motorway, damaging other cars.
No one was injured in the incident at just after 5.10am.
The northbound carriageway has been closed and a diversion is in place from junction 5 onto Manchester Road, Chorley Road and back onto the motorway at junction 6.
Replacement bus service running on Northern Rail between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport due to over running engineering works at Manchester Airport.
A34 Upper Brook Street both ways closed due to building fire at a restaurant between Brunswick Street and Inchley Road near Booth Street East.
M61 Northbound blocked due to accident between J5 A58 (Westhoughton) and J6 A6027 (Horwich). The incident is also affecting lane three of southbound carriageway.
