The mother of Moors murder victim Keith Bennett died not knowing where her son was buried by Ian Brady and Myra Hindley.
The church is also raising funds for a memorial garden as a lasting tribute to Winnie.
Canon Ian Gomersall of St Chrysostom's Church in Longsight, Manchester, said Mrs Johnson had a sense of fun about her despite "her tragedy and the sorrow that she bore".
