Police make rural crime arrests

Police in Lancashire have made 16 arrests during a week-long crack down on rural crime.

The arrests were for a variety of offences, including theft from rural buildings and poaching. Almost £16,000 of property was recovered. More than 55 rural crime suspects were visited and handed warning letters.

Poachers and criminal gangs are being targeted in a police operation in Lancashire. It involves increased patrols and roadside checks stop livestock thefts. Rural crime costs the UK more than £50m a year.
