Sex abuse scout leader walks free from court

A Scout leader from Bolton who sexually abused three young girls has walked free from court.

David Patterson, 66, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to three specimen counts of indecent assault covering a period from 1983 to 1997, said Greater Manchester Police.

He was sentenced at Minshull Street Crown Court to 16 months jail, suspended for 18 months. He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years.

Patterson's child abuse came to light in August 2010 when one of his victims, then in her late 20s, contacted police.

During the course of interviews with specially-trained officers, it emerged that Patterson, of Stonebridge Close, Lostock, had abused three girls over the course of more than a decade.

None of his victims were involved in the Scouts.
