Mistaken identity stabbing in Preston

Police in Preston are appealing for witnesses after a man was stabbed and seriously injured late on Friday evening.

The victim, a 28 year old man, was walking on New Rough Hey with his partner at around 10:00pm, when he was approached by a gang of up to five men with their faces covered.

He was knocked to the ground before being punched, kicked and stabbed.

He was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital and underwent surgery and his condition is now improving.

It is thought the victim was mistaken for someone else who'd been involved in an earlier disturbance in the same area.

Detective Inspector Paddy O’Neill from Preston CID said “I believe that this man has been wrongly targeted and that he was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
