Woman seriously ill after jumping from taxi

A 23-year-old woman is seriously ill in hospital after apparently jumping from a taxi in Liverpool.

She was travelling in a black cab from Wirral to Liverpool at about 1.15am this morning.

Police believe she lowered the taxi window while it was in the Wallasey tunnel and starting leaning out of it.

But as the taxi approached the junction of Kirkdale Road and Smith Street the woman jumped out of the window.

She was taken to hospital where doctors say her condition is serious.

The taxi driver is assisting police with their inquiries.

Merseyside Police would like to speak with anyone who witnessed what happened in the tunnel or on Kirkdale Road.
