A 40-year-old man has been arrested after apparently threatening a woman with a knife in St Annes.
Lancashire Police were called to Derbe Road at about 4.15pm. When they got there they saw a man brandishing a weapon at a window.
An armed response unit and trained negotiator were dispatched.
After a two-hour stand-off the man left the scene and was arrested.
Both he and a 35-year-old woman were taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.
A number of weapons were found and police say an investigation is underway.
"The incident lasted just over two hours and fortunately reached a safe conclusion following the hard work and patience of specially trained officers and local police patrols.
"There was a lot of police activity in and around the scene and we did have to put a cordon in place. These decisions were based on protecting the public and minimising the risk. I would like to thank people in the area for their cooperation, patience and support.
– Inspector Darrin Butterworth, Lancashire Police
"Incidents like this are rare but when they do happen the public should be reassured that Lancashire Constabulary has highly trained officers that will deal with the situation."
