Two arrested after 'contaminated' ecstasy deaths

Police have made two arrests after the deaths of two men from Wigan who took possibly contaminated ecstasy pills.

Jordan Chambers, 19, and Gareth Ashton, 28, were both admitted to hospital after feeling unwell.

A Greater Manchester Police statement said:

On Monday 21 January 2013, police were called to Wigan Infirmary following the death of a 28-year-old man. He was admitted to hospital after complaining of being unwell.

Police were also made aware of the death of a 19-year-old man at Oldham Hospital on Sunday 20 January 2013 who suffered similar symptoms. The post mortems are scheduled to take place later this week.

A 34-year-old man and 33-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of being concerned in supplying a controlled drug and remain in custody for police questioning. Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 7149 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
