Temperatures over the last few hours, away from the Pennines, have recovered to 5/6C - turning any sleety wet snow back to rain.

The Met Office have a warning for ICE overnight as the temperatures take a dip again. Lows of -1C.

Another area of rain, sleet and wet snow is due to sink south during the early hours of Wednesday morning. This could settle over the Pennines giving a further 2-5cm of snow.

After an icy start to Wednesday, and despite a strong and bitterly cold wind from the north, many places will be dry with a good deal of sunshine. Cold high of 5C.
