Cregan murder trial

The trial of a man accused of the murder of two police officers in Greater Manchester has begun. Dale Cregan, 29, is accused of killing PCs Nicola Hughes, 23, and Fiona Bone, 32, in a gun and grenade attack, on September 18 last year.

The mother of a man - whose murder sparked a series of shootings ending with the deaths of two policewomen - has told a court her son didn't deserve to die.

Michelle Kelly was the first witness in the trial of Dale Cregan and nine others at Preston Crown Court.

She's the mother of Mark Short and was the partner of David Short - both men were murdered in separate shootings last year.
