Police museum closes after burglar 'tried to break in'

A police museum in Manchester was forced to close, after a burglar tried to break in.

Greater Manchester Police Museum had to shut on Tuesday after a window was smashed. But after bars across the windows stopped the would-be thief in his tracks, CCTV showed him trying to kick through a door instead.

A member of staff was called to the museum on Newton Street in Manchester’s Northern Quarter about 1am after an alarm triggered.

A man was spoken to by police at the scene and later arrested in the Cheetham area after officers viewed security footage. He is being questioned on suspicion of attempted burglary.
