Valid from 14:00 on Fri, 22nd Mar 2013 until 06:00 on Sat, 23rd Mar 2013

A band of heavy rain spreading northwards across the UK has turned to snow in many

parts, with some heavy and persistent snowfall likely to develop through the period into

Saturday morning.

High ground may see snow accumulations of 20-40 cm in places, with drifting and blizzard conditions due to the strong to gale force southeasterly winds. At lower levels, 10-15 cm of snow is likely in places.

The public should be aware of the potential for severe disruption to transport and to power supplies.
