A man has been arrested after two teenage boys were shot in Merseyside.
The 15-year-olds suffered injuries to their legs after the incident on Hanlon Avenue in Bootle.
A 22-year-old man from Bootle is being questioned by police.
"This incident shows a complete disregard for local residents. While we believe that this was a targeted incident this was an extremely reckless act that could have had tragic consequences.
"We are not prepared to allow the close work we have developed with the community to be disrupted. I want to urge those with information to make contact with us immediately so that we can bring the offenders to justice.
"We will do everything within our powers to take these criminals and their weapons off our streets but we need the help of the community to do this."
