Merseyside Police have confirmed that a post mortem carried out following the death of three-year-old James Curtis in Tranmere has concluded that he died as a result of a blunt force trauma to the head.
Emergency services were called to a property in St Catherines Gardens to a report a three-year-old boy had been injured after a fireplace fell on him on Monday.
Paramedics took the boy to hospital where he later died.
Police say the matter is not being treated as suspicious at this time.
