A weekend of events is getting under way in Liverpool to mark the city's role in the Battle of the Atlantic, a major turning point in the Second World War. Veterans will join local dignitaries for four days of commemorations.

Record crowds at Liverpool celebrations

Record crowds have again been out in Liverpool for the final full day of commemorations for the 70th anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic.

The city was the home of the Western Approaches control room keeping vital supply routes open.

Organisers say attendances have exceeded all expectations, as Ralph Blunsom reports.
