Lancashire Police say a murder investigation is underway in St Annes after a 47 year old man died after being assaulted outside a takeaway last night.
The incident took place around 11pm on Park Road when the victim was walking home with a group of friends and family.
It is believed he had become involved in an argument with a man outside Zeko’s takeaway during which he has been assaulted.
An ambulance was called but despite efforts to revive him he was pronounced dead on arrival at Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
A post mortem examination is expected to be carried out later today to establish a cause of death. Formal identification is also expected to take place this afternoon.
Detective Superintendent Andy Murphy from the Force Major Investigation Team said: “This is a tragic incident and an investigation is underway to establish the circumstances of exactly what happened. Specially trained family liaison officers are supporting the victim’s family.
“I’d reassure people that this is an isolated incident and that extra officers are out patrolling the area.
“I’d also urge anybody who witnessed this incident or with any information that could assist our investigation to come forward and contact Lancashire Police on 101.”
A 32 year old man from St Annes has been arrested on suspicion of murder and a 45 year old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault. Both are currently in police custody being questioned by detectives.
Park Road was sealed off until 11am today to allow crime scene investigators to examine the scene.
