A 15 year old boy has been arrested on suspicion of importing a firearm after a gun ordered from the US was intercepted by police before it was delivered to Merseyside.
Police and UK Border Force officers discovered the handgun in a package due to be sent to a property in Formby.
Detective Superintendent Chris Green, said: " Our message to those involved in gun crime is clear, we are relentless in our pursuit of those who use firearms on our streets.
Preventing the distribution and supply of firearms is a priority for us and we will endeavour to do what we can with partners like the UK Border Force to stop guns from coming in to circulation on Merseyside."
The arrested male was taken to a police station on Merseyside where he was questioned by detectives. He has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.
