The government's announced tens of millions of pounds for transport projects aimed, it says, at keeping the North west moving:-

The Prime Minster's been in the region this afternoon to see for himself the areas that might benefit.

Schemes getting funding include the M6 Heysham link road, the electrification of the Wigan - Bolton railway line and junction improvements on the M55 and M62.
