Football League award named for Sir Tom Finney

The Football League is renaming its annual outstanding career award in honour of Sir Tom Finney.

Sir Tom, who was a Preston North End and England legend, died last month at the age of 91.

The first recipient of the newly named award will be retired Bournemouth player, Steve Fletcher. He will receive the award on Sunday night.

Shaun Harvey, Chief Executive of the Football League, said: "Sir Tom Finney's talent, loyalty and commitment marked him out as a truly exceptional player and a model professional."

"We are delighted to name this award in his honour and present it to those players that, like Sir Tom, set standards that others aspire to."
