Alex had moved with her family from the North West to Florida a few years earlier. Tom Hollinghurst posted this message on Facebook.
Firstly, we would like to express our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of police officer German for their loss. Three families have been left devastated by this tragedy. Alex was a bright beautiful girl who will always be missed and loved, Alex's death has caused a void in our lives that will never be filled.
We understand that this is news but we need time to grieve and would really appreciate the press and media giving us time to do so, we do not have any statements to make now or in the near future our thoughts are our own and will remain that way we would like to thank our family and friends for their love and concern it was gratefully received.
