Bride and groom spend wedding night in police cells

A bride and groom spent their wedding night in a police cell after a fight broke out at a hotel reception in Manchester.

Officers were called to the Hilton hotel on Deansgate on Saturday night after couple got into scuffle with the hotel security as they tried to check in for their wedding night.

The groom was arrested on suspicion of a section 47 assault with his 29-year-old wife being held on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence.

Nick Adderley, Chief Superintendent of Greater Manchester Police’s North Division tweeted about the arrests:

Imagine my surprise to see one prisoner in her wedding dress, and her new husband in the next cell! Not my idea of a 'wedding night'.

According to the Manchester Evening News, they were taken to a local police station where they were kept in separate cells overnight, just metres apart.

They remain in custody for questioning about the allegations.
