Wirral West MP Esther McVey is widely tipped to enter the cabinet today as part of the Prime Minister's final reshuffle before next year's General Election.
The current Employment Minister is believed to be one of ten women who could find themselves prompted as David Cameron looks to address the lack of women at the top table of government.
Ms McVey is held in high regard among senior Tories for her work in the Department for Work and Pensions, and for her strong media performances in defending the government's welfare reforms.
She was tipped for promotion earlier this year when Culture Secretary Maria Miller was forced to resign over her expenses, but was overlooked in favour of Sajid Javid.
It's believed the Prime Minister is considering moving Mr Javid to another cabinet brief in order to hand the role to Ms McVey.
