Police are advising motorists to avoid the A538 Hale Road after a crash.
A statement from Greater Manchester Police said:
"GMP is advising that motorists avoid the A538 Hale Road following a serious RTC.
Hale Road is closed both ways at the junction with Brooks Drive and is likely to remain so until at least 1pm.
Motorists, especially those hoping to travel to the airport, are advised to avoid the area if at all possible."
