Stephen O'Brien is set to step down after serving as Eddisbury's MP for 15 years.

Mr O'Brien was first elected in the July by-election of 1999.

He has confirmed that he will not seek re-election on the 7th of May and will be taking on a new job at the United Nations in New York, as the next Under-Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs.

The Eddisbury Conservative Association will now start the selection of the Conservative Party Candidate for Eddisbury for the General Election.

It has been the most enormous privilege to serve as the Member of Parliament for all the people of Eddisbury over the last, almost, sixteen years. I shall always be grateful for the support and engagement across a wide variety of issues over that time throughout the constituency.
