Jack Pullen, who died while playing the River Etherow near Hyde has been described as a 'caring and sensitive young man' by his former headteacher.
The 16 year old left Longdendale High School after completing his GCSEs this summer.
We are shocked and deeply saddened to learn of this tragic incident involving a boy who was a student at our school.
He was a popular student whose gentle soul touched a lot of people. He was a very caring and sensitive young man, his family and friends were hugely important to him and he will be greatly missed by our entire community.
We have been in touch with his family to offer our condolences and have support in place for pupils and staff who are clearly very upset by the tragic news.
