Police appeal after van driver left fighting for his life

Police have appealed for a van driver to come forward after a collision in Manchester that has left a cyclist fighting for his life.

The 57-year-old cyclist came off his silver mountain bike in Levenshulme and landed on a parked car at about 2pm yesterday.

A large white van was travelling directly behind him in Stockport Road, heading to Longsight, at the time of the incident opposite Crowcroft Park.

The cyclist received treatment at the scene from paramedics before he was taken to hospital, where his injuries worsened and he is in a critical condition.

Police have launched an investigation to establish how the man came off his bike and have appealed for the van driver to come forward to help with their inquiries.

"It's not clear how the cyclist came off his bike but it happened on a busy road and people driving on the A6 at this time, or who were in the park opposite, may have seen something that could help with our inquiries."
