No Arriva bus services will run in Merseyside, Greater Manchester, Lancashire or parts of Cheshire today because more than 2,000 bus drivers and engineering staff at Arriva North West have walked out in the first of three one-day strikes.

Arriva Buses Wales services that run through Cheshire will operate as normal. A number of services from the Chester depot will also run as normal. They are the 1, 1A, 15, 15A, DB1, DB2, DB4, 3, 3A, 4, 4A, 10, 10A, 82 and services coming into Chester from Wrexham and Rhyl.

Members of the GMB and Unite unions have taken industrial action in an ongoing row over pay. They will also strike on Monday 23 October and Monday 30 October.

Bus depots in Birkenhead, Bolton, Bootle, Macclesfield, Runcorn, St Helens, Speke, Southport, Winsford and Wythenshaw are all affected.

Unite said talks over pay had broken down.
