New foodbank to open in Salford

42 families every week use food banks in Salford Credit: pa

A new foodbank is opening in Eccles, Greater Manchester to help more local people who are struggling to put food on the table. Demand has risen by 43% since last year with the foodbanks now helping 42 families every week with emergency food parcels.

While I’m grateful to everyone involved in and who supports our Salford foodbanks for stepping forward to help people in dire need, I’m horrified by the increase in demand. If the foodbanks weren’t there we would have people starving and that is unthinkable in 21st century Britain.
