Fans heading to tomorrow's two north west derby matches are being advised to plan their journeys and check before they travel.

Merseyside Police says it is working closely with Liverpool Football Club to monitor the weather ahead of tomorrow's derby fixture at Anfield.

Everton are due to face Liverpool while Manchester United will host Manchester City just hours after a predicted persistent and potentially heavy spell of snow.

At this stage both games are still planned to go ahead.

"We will be monitoring the weather forecast and assessing any travel disruption. We will be meeting with the club early tomorrow morning and fans will be updated as soon as possible."

– Ch Supt Chris Markey, Merseyside Police

While both Old Trafford and Anfield have under-soil heating, the club will be keen to protect the safety of fans if there is heavy snow on the roads around the stadiums.

Final decisions are expected to be made tomorrow morning.
