Archaeologists have found a wall from a Roman soldiers' barracks while digging the foundations for a new shopping centre in Chester. The multi million pound Northgate development –– will cover a site once occupied by a Roman fortress 2,000 years ago. Experts are probing underground remains before construction starts by digging a series of trial holes. They believe they have already found the remains of a Roman wall in Hamilton Place, at the rear of The Forum shopping centre, which would have formed part of the soldiers’ barracks.
