A man who rammed a police car with a stolen transit van during a pursuit has been jailed.
Daniel Cowell, 25, of Mayan Avenue, Salford has been sentenced at Manchester Crown Square today, Friday 20 April 2018, to five years and four months in prison.
He previously pleaded guilty to criminal damage with intent to endanger life, aggravated taking without owners consent (TWOC), driving without insurance and driving without a license.
Shortly before 3.15am on Tuesday 5 September 2017, officers in an unmarked police car were patrolling Salford when they began pursuing a stolen Ford Transit van.
During the pursuit, the van - which had been stolen from an address in Little Hulton - turned around quickly and drove directly at the patrol car, ramming into them, before driving off.
The two officers in the patrol car had to receive hospital treatment and were unable to continue their usual duties for a period of time. Thankfully they returned to work and the same officers spotted Cowell driving a stolen Renault Megan one evening a number of weeks later.
He again attempted to ram the officers off the road but this time they managed to stop Cowell and he was arrested.
